Superstruct’s Founder & CEO, Rache Brand, and Partner Andrew Rose, are joined by Whitney Rottman, who leads Agriculture & Biologicals at Superstruct, and Javier Alvarez, a talented visual storyteller who has crafted this exercise and overall experience. The questions were prompted by Whitney and Javi. This conversation explored the significance of Giving Tuesday and the broader meaning of intentional giving. It was an intellectual debate!
Through thoughtful dialogue, we align these themes with Superstruct’s mission to build sustainable, interconnected systems honoring legacy and future impact. Their conversation offers a compelling look at how businesses and individuals can redefine giving with purpose and creativity.
We encourage each of our community members to think critically about tradition, reasons for doing, and a constant re-evaluation of what you do with your life. Each day is an opportunity to improve.
Here is also a running list of how you can participate and involve yourself with communities around the world.
Andrew Rose: Giving Tuesday originally began as a way for people to think about nonprofits post-Thanksgiving, but it’s grown into something much larger. For me, it’s a time to reflect on the organizations that align deeply with my values and to support their missions. It’s not just about donations—it’s about connection and purpose.
Rache Brand: I agree. Giving Tuesday is about rethinking our relationship with consumerism. In Western society, we’re part of the wealthiest 5% globally, yet we keep acquiring more things—most of which end up in landfills. Instead, this is an opportunity to align with humanity and our planet, supporting a coexistence that sustains rather than consumes.
Andrew Rose: That’s why it’s so important for us to share this message now. Superstruct isn’t just about business—it’s about addressing the crossroads humanity faces. Climate change is advancing to a point where it may no longer be controllable. Every action, every dollar we spend, is a vote. Giving Tuesday allows us to direct those votes toward meaningful change.
Rache Brand: Exactly. For me, success isn’t about short-term gains; it’s about legacy, sustainability, and interconnectedness. I want people to see that there’s another way to build and grow—one that considers the long-term health of the planet and society.
Andrew Rose: When I think about Giving Tuesday visually, I imagine something forward-looking—the promise of the future. It’s not just about what’s been done; it’s about what’s possible when we come together to give with intention.
Rache Brand: That’s beautiful, Andrew. And for the holidays, I think of togetherness, family, and tradition. It’s about connection—honoring elders, creating legacies, and building moments of joy. These moments are opportunities to reflect and realign with what truly matters.
Rache Brand: For me, Giving Tuesday is also a reminder to challenge the status quo. It’s not just about a donation—it’s about how we think and act. At Superstruct, we question everything, building with curiosity and intention. That’s how we redefine success—not just in business, but for the planet and future generations.
Andrew Rose: And redefining success is about leading by example. Giving Tuesday allows us to show who we are—beyond just being a business. It’s a chance to express our values and contribute to a paradigm shift. If we can inspire even a small change in how people think about giving, we’ve made an impact.
Rache Brand: It’s about creating meaningful traditions, too. One of my favorites is our gratitude tree. Everyone decorates a leaf, writes what they’re thankful for, and adds it to the tree. Over the years, it’s become a time capsule of gratitude—a reminder of what truly matters. (see below)
Andrew Rose: For me, the holidays are about stripping away the noise. I’ve created my own traditions—fasting during Thanksgiving, making handmade gifts, and spending time reflecting on what’s meaningful. It’s about reconnecting with intention and giving back to the people and ideas that matter most.
Rache Brand: That’s exactly the energy we want to bring to this campaign—whether it’s Giving Tuesday or the holidays. It’s about being intentional, questioning the systems we’re part of, and finding ways to give that align with our values.
Andrew Rose: And if we can inspire others to think differently, to connect more deeply, and to give with intention, we’re doing more than just participating in Giving Tuesday—we’re helping to shape a better future.
Thanksgiving "What you are thankful for" Tree
This is a very fun 20 minute project. Be as creative as you like. Our family tradition is to go for a hike in the morning with apple cider and pick the perfect leaf off the ground for tracing. Then we talk about the leaf we found and where. We connect and ground ourselves back to nature.
