Andrew Rose is an AgFuturist and a leading expert in cybersecurity and climate issues, dedicated to addressing challenges three generations ahead of their time. With a visionary approach, he focuses on uncovering and mitigating risks in the agricultural sector yet to emerge.
Currently, Andrew serves as an advisor to the BIO-ISAC and is a partner at Superstruct. His deep commitment to social impact is evident through his involvement with numerous non-profit boards and organizations. He has previously held the position of Chief Strategy Officer in Residence at the Emerging Technologies Centers and served as the Chair of the Advisory Council for the Maryland Cybersecurity Association.
Andrew has played significant roles in advancing agricultural innovation, including serving as a judge for the Grow-NY AgInnovation event in its inaugural years (2019/2020) and as a senior advisor for the 2020 American Farm Bureau Federation AgInnovation Challenge. He was also an organizer for TEDxBaltimore events and recently served as the treasurer for the Keystone Development Center. Passionate about leadership development, he helped found the GIVE Program, a training initiative for rising professionals in Maryland.
In 2016, while working at a major agricultural bank Andrew initiated a cybersecurity awareness program upon recognizing the agrarian sector's vulnerability to cyber threats. His multifaceted expertise spans cybersecurity, banking and finance, risk management, and food, agriculture, and climate professional services.
An avid hiker, Andrew has summited 35 of Colorado's 56 peaks exceeding 14,000 feet, reflecting his dedication to overcoming challenges both professionally and personally. If Andrew could live in a tent and travel 365 days a year with reliable Wi-Fi to continue doing the work he is passionate about, he would.
I promised my daughter that I would give her a future, and that promise fuels every aspect of my life's work. Every day, this commitment drives me to tackle the most pressing issues facing our planet. My number one mission is critical: restoring a healthy biome in our oceans. The oceans are the heartbeat of Earth, regulating climate and sustaining countless forms of life. Without thriving oceans, our atmosphere could become dominated by hydrogen sulfide, leading to a scenario where extremophiles—organisms that thrive in extreme conditions—could rule the planet. This is a future I refuse to accept.
I believe we must act now to prevent this outcome, not just for ourselves but for all future generations. It's not enough to address the problems we see today; we have to anticipate and mitigate the challenges that are yet to emerge. That's why I focus on working three generations ahead, striving to uncover and solve issues before they become insurmountable. I hold myself to the principle: "Do the right thing when no one is looking." To me, this means making ethical choices and taking responsible actions, even when they go unnoticed or unappreciated.
"Do the right thing when no one is looking." – Andrew Rose
This journey isn't easy, but I am driven by the knowledge that our efforts today will shape the world of tomorrow. I am committed to collaborating with others who share this vision, combining our expertise to make a tangible difference. Together, we can restore the health of our oceans, safeguard our atmosphere, and ensure that my daughter—and all our children—inherit a planet that is vibrant and full of life.
AgFuturist
When I started this journey with Superstruct, I was leaning into my areas of interest on new & novel ingredients in insect protein. Every day is an opportunity to learn and grow. I think a lot about how the future is going to look and what we are going to have to do from a biologicals and Agfuture standpoint to maintain the sheer volume of available food for our human population.
As I have engaged in Superstruct and started to hang my hat here, I am realizing the areas I am working in cross paths with business growth. If we can't make them sustainable, we will not be able to see these changes come to reality.
Here's what the future looks like and how we are building it at Superstruct:
Iterating in the market in real-time.
Having a clear why and value system for the future.
Creating Horizon 2 and 3 and working towards it as you build a sustainable business.
MicroPivoting to grow stronger (building what you learn from the market).
Developing the ecosystem of change to build in harmony.
I have a robust background in finance, but I learned early on in life that my role is to use that as leverage to support the future.
Thinking Three Generations Ahead
Incorporating a forward-thinking approach that considers the well-being of the current population and future generations.Â
This long-term perspective is essential for:
Addressing Global Challenges: As the global population grows, innovative solutions like SpaceAg can help meet food demand without overexploiting Earth's resources.
Environmental Stewardship: Biologicals support sustainable farming practices that protect the environment, ensuring that future generations inherit a healthy planet.
Technological Progress: Investing in advanced agricultural technologies prepares society for future challenges and fosters resilience against uncertainties like climate change.
